Haleakala Silversword

This intriguing plant grows only on Haleakala on Maui. It is a facinating plant that only flowers once in it's lifetime, near the end of it's long life. This photo was taken in a little garden that has been set up on the summit of Haleakala. There is a big effort being made to bring this plant back after becoming nearly extinct years ago. I think it's just a beautiful plant with such an interesting story, it's definitely worth saving. For more info here's a link: http://biology.usgs.gov/s+t/noframe/t172.htm

That is so neat, and once again, love the story behind it. Looks like one of those seaweed balls :)
