I love quilts. Any shape, any size. The more colorful, the better. I love pieced quilts, appliqued quilts, Amish quilts...any quilt. I have a very small quilt collection but am on the lookout to expand it. I've even made a quilt. Yes, I...Jenny...have actually made a quilt. It was a small one but I made it myself. I do have lots of quilt books and would love to be able to sit down and make all the quilts I have earmarked, but I know that isn't possible. In my small collection two of my most prized quilts are ones that my mother gave me that were made by my grandmother. These are not pristine, prize winning quilts. Rather they are quilts made by a farmer's wife and well used on the farm by the family. There are worn spots in them but I don't mind. It adds to the character of these pieces of family history. This shot is a close up of one of those quilts. I just love the fabric with the little palm trees. These quilts were probably made during the 30's or 40's and it's facinating to see fabric like this being used in such a hard time. I'm glad that I have two of these quilts so I can pass one along to each of my daughters. I hope they cherish them as much as I do.
Settings: ISO 400, F 4.0, SS 1/8 (amazing that I handheld this and still got clarity in the shot), focal length 28mm. Unsharp mask and saturation boost in PSE5.

I am so impressed with anyone that can quilt. I have no clue about these things. My sil showed me a quilt she made last weekend and I was in awe. Quilts are beautiful. Your children will love that you are passing down some very cherished quilts.
BTW - Good luck on your basketball posters!
Love the red fabric used in this quilt. I have a few quilts and I also collect vintage textiles. My grandmother was a quilter too, she used to make quilts from the fabric leftover from the outfits my mom made for my sister and me. Thanks for sharing your story!
I love the quilt photo. my MIL is a quilter by profession so we do get a few quilts... I think my daughter has 8 to her name already. I love the older style quilts, more patchwork and such. You've showcased this one wonderfully well.
Thanks for sharing your story and family quilt! My mom also quilts and I have 2 made by her that I cherish. Hopefully someday I will learn. :-)
I only wish I could quilt. What a great insight into who you are. How many quilts do you have in total?
my grandmother quilted! I am awed at anyone who can start, let alone finish a quilt. Awesome!
For Heather, I have the two from my grandmother, 1 from DH's aunt, 1 small Hawaiian quilt (I want a big one but they are so expensive), a couple of lap throw sized quilts and a lap throw sized Christmas quilt. That's in addition to a few that I have for various beds that aren't old or anything, just pretty. I also have an old quilt top that I bought on Ebay to make into a shower curtain.
Wish I could quilt. Beautiful shot. Love the colors and the soft texture.
this is an artform I totally appreciate and can in no way undertake. thank you for sharing this family treasure.
oh i LOVE your shot! i am a quilter also and therefore a collector...so nice to find others with the same passions.
